If he were my kid, I would have made him ride in the trunk, and oh god I just realized I’m probably the same age as the parents in this story. Amanda and her little brother Josh immediately think the house is creepy, but Amanda is more willing to hold her tongue and give it a chance, whereas Josh is being a little jerk about everything. Relatives that you don’t remember having don’t generally leave you giant creepy houses, guys. Right away we know that something is hinky, because no one knows who great-uncle Charles is. We open with our narrator, Amanda, and her family arriving in Dark Falls to check out the house that her dad’s great-uncle Charles has left to them in his will. Even listening to the lovelies at A Nightmare on Fear Street podcast talk about it didn’t jog my memory much (at all, really?), so this is going to be an interesting one. I found this one in a box of my old books (along with a couple others that I do remember reading), so I assume I’ve read it, but I just don’t remember anything about it. I used to spend the night at my three-years-younger-than-me cousin’s house and read her Goosebumps books in the morning when everyone was still asleep and I had nothing else to do. I started reading Goosebumps when I was already a bit over the target demographic – probably around 15 or so.
